Tom Zapotosky, Director - Aftermarket Americas, addresses his role and his team’s role within the company, as well as their focus when it comes to aftermarket sales.

“BW Container Systems is one of the Packaging Platform companies under Barry-Wehmiller and our umbrella consists of Fleetwood, Goldco, Wyard, AMBEC, Jetstream, Acme, Simplimatic and many others. We are in 150 countries and we have over 10,000 machine footprints out there. So, that’s a huge market to pursue. One of our goals is to make sure that our equipment is running efficiently on the packaging line and another is to make sure that it is operating safely. 

Aftermarket is a global business. We have three separate sales team. We have the brewery and beverage team. We have the can and end manufacturing sales team and then we have a strategic market team covering Consumer Goods, Food, Household Goods, Milk/Juice, Personal Care, Pharma and Wine/Spirits.  Our aftermarket sales team representatives average over 25 years of technical experience with our products and the markets we support. This provides us an industry-leading ability to partner with our customer’s teams to better understand the solutions needed to address the challenges they may face in the production environment. Our team members visit their facilities and offer them the expert advice they need to evaluate equipment upgrades, offer field service support, on-site training, and spare parts supply.

A large percentage of our legacy equipment is 15-20 years old, and when we audit a piece of equipment of that vintage, a key focus area is for our safety requirements to meet Cat 3 (i.e. light curtains, safety mechanical guarding, etc.).  What’s interesting is that if you were to look at these 10,000 machine footprints centers globally, a fair percentage falls into strategic markets and our focus the last six months has been targeting those machines. I can foresee that within the next year to a year and a half, increasing our team by three to four members in that strategic market due to its size.

The BW Container Systems aftermarket team supports the full extent of the equipment's life cycle encompassing equipment upgrades, spare parts and field service. We offer focused areas of support for mechanical and electrical safety upgrades to meet any and all safety requirements; electrical controls, PLC, and software upgrades to meet current industry standards; air deck conversions for cup and can conveyance on BW Container Systems and other OEM conveyors; annual contracts for field service audits, training, and technical assistance; and customer service representatives in each of our locations to provide spare parts in a quick and efficient manner.”
